Requirements for transfer applicants:
- Common Application
- Application fee (Fee waived if you apply online)
- College Official's Report
- Official final high school transcript
- Official transcript from each college attended
- Standardized test scores are required unless a student (1) has earned 32 hours or more transferable semester hours or (2) has reached his/her 21st birthday.
The Admissions Committee believes that standardized testing has an important place in selective college admissions decision-making, but we believe that students should have choices. Furman applicants can meet our standardized test requirement by submitting scores choosing from one of the following options :
- SAT I,
- ACT (American College Testing) assessment test and optional writing test,
- two SAT II subject tests - one in English, one in Math,
- two AP (Advanced Placement) exams, one from English (Language and Composition or Literature and Composition) and one from Math (Calculus AB or Calculus BC),
- two IB (International Baccalaureate) exams, one in English Language (A1) and one in Mathematics, or
- the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Applicants should request all test scores from the appropriate testing agency prior to the application deadlines. Candidates for admission who submit SAT and/or ACT scores must also submit a standardized writing score.
The Admissions Committee will select the scores that offer the student the greatest advantage in the admissions review process (meaning the highest score) if a student were to submit multiple test results.

Helpful hints for transfer students:
- Furman is a residential campus and has a four year residency requirement. Space is therefore limited for enrolling in the winter and spring terms, as students do not tend to leave or transfer out of Furman at those times. The ideal time to transfer in to Furman is the fall term, so please plan accordingly.
- While the application deadline for applying for the fall term is June 1, space is traditionally unavailable after March 15. If at all possible, have your application to the Admissions Office by early February, which will enable your application to be evaluated with our freshman applicant pool and will ensure that space is available.
The Alden Transfer Scholarship is a full tuition, two-year scholarship awarded on the basis of academic achievement and potential success as a Furman graduate. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must have completed a two-year College Transfer Program at a technical college, community college or junior college. Candidates must also be accepted for admission to Furman. This scholarship is offered through a generous endowment from the George I. Alden Trust of Worchester, Massachusetts. The Alden Scholar will be chosen by a Furman faculty committee. The application must be returned to the Office of Admissions postmarked by January 15, 2010 . Recipients will be notified in April.
